How does something like this happen?!
When you work in IT, you come across all kinds of wild crap. Swollen batteries, a warped frame, broken off plastic, missing keys, all sorts of things. For some bizarre reason, some folks just abuse their tech, and it is not uncommon for me and the refurbishing company I work at to find laptops and computers in various conditions. And yet, stuff like this still blows my mind.
Now like I said, it is fairly common for us to receive laptops with busted or sometimes shattered screens. But it is also surprisingly common for machines like these to come in. Now if you’re not familiar, this is what is often called an All-In-One, or AIO for short. It’s basically a monitor and a computer put into one single device. They are pretty convenient if you have limited space and don’t have to have a giant tower on top of your desk, or under your desk.
On big upside to having an AIO as well is that it basically doesn’t go anywhere. It just sits on top of your desk, and it stays there. You’re not gonna be moving around too much. Which is why it blows my mind how common it is for an AIO to come in our shop with busted screens like this.
Part of the reason why I find this bizarre is because all too often it is only the display that is broken like this. When looking for other signs of damage on these machines, there often just is not that much else to find. And I just cannot for the life of me imagine how that happens. Because like I said, AIOs generally don’t go anywhere, they’re quite sturdy once you have them sitting on your desk, or mounted onto a monitor arm.
Do you have any theories on how this can happen?
