Settling for “Good enough”

Perfectionism is a curse

Perfectionism has been a big part of me since basically the beginning of the PhoenixStarYT channel on YouTube. I care a lot about the product I’m delivering to my audience. I want to give you the best videos I can produce, and often try my hardest to accomplish that.

There is however a big problem with being a perfectionist; it’s a curse. A curse that many creators like myself have, and one that is very hard to get over. It has severely slowed down production of several videos I have been meaning to work on for far too long, leaving a huge gap in between uploads. It’s about time I do something about that, and that I stop worrying about the little things in a production. It’s time to settle for “good enough”

Koen’s Corner in 2025

Now, 2025 was a rather lackluster year for Koen’s Corner, to say the least. I didn’t upload very much to the channel, and what little I did upload was really nothing to write home about. As most of the Koen’s Corners I did upload consisted of live commentary about random bullshit that was on my mind at the time, and I don’t think that’ll cut it anymore.

So I tried fixing the problem by making the videos bigger, and more interesting to look at and listen to. Which in turn just led me to slow production down to a crawl. Because I tried to not only discuss more complicated, and involved topics besides just one cartoon episode or movie. Videos like “Why Video Games are more popular than ever” and “Pixar – Animated Movies for the Lonely” are good examples of this.

Why Retro Games Are More Popular than Ever Today

A lot of heart and effort was put into this one video. From research, the writing, playing the games, voice over, to the editing of it. I wanted this video to be as good as it could possibly be, and I like to think I did pretty good with it. However, there was one major caveat with this; I just don’t have the time to make videos this elaborate anymore.

Ever since I got a job, my freetime to make YouTube content has pretty much dropped like a rock. I work fulltime now, which leaves me with very little time to work on my creative projects, as sad as that makes me. Because of this, making videos as big as this one just simply is not an option anymore unfortunately.

What to expect in 2026

To make up for the sheer lack of content this last year, and to make sure I actually put out some more stuff on PhoenixStarYT, changes need to be made. So I have been thinking about this for a while, and here’s my plan of attack for 2026;

Make more live action Koen’s Corners

These I used to make relatively often back in the early days of PhoenixStarYT. They were mostly unscripted videos where I would just sit in front of the camera and talk about any random topic. However there would typically be a fair bit of editing in them, like some cuts here and there, images, and zoom ins.

I consider many of these a staple of PhoenixStarYT and Koen’s Corner. I believe it would be awesome to bring them back. They are also very easy to put together, and quite fun to make too. So Live Action Koen’s Corner is coming back for sure. I got a new camera, and a new mic to go with it. Now is a better than never to get to it.

Minimize the workload in general

My editing style has evolved into something incredibly elaborate. Mainly thanks to the many years I spent editing for PhantomStrider, and I like to think that my editing has improved a ton since I started that job. However, it’s a style that unfortunately just will not work for me anymore, with the limited amount of time I have. Therefore, compromises have to be made, as much as it saddens me.

Essentially what that means is that keyframing will be greatly reduced. I won’t be throwing a bunch of visuals on the screen at once, unless absolutly necessary. And I will make the videos in a podcast style going forward.

Producing my Koen’s Corners this way will minimize the workload of the videos immensely, therefore will be more efficient to produce. That way you will get more content faster from me.

The website

In the meantime, in between Koen’s Corners on YouTube, I will also work on my website! I have a bunch of ideas for stories I want to share, topics to cover, and updates to bring.

The goal is to release one new Koen Blog every single week, which I write during my breaks at work, after work, or during the weekends. Whatever will I be posting? Literally anything that comes to mind. Can be tech related, can be a story about my life, can be a review of a movie I watched, or even a reading journal.

There is also gonna be updates of Koen’s Corner YouTube content. So you won’t be completely in the dark for what I’m working on either. And I plan on turning every one of my blogposts into a full video on the YouTube channel as well. Since this is essentially an extension of the YouTube channel.

Weekly live streams, and compilations

I love live streaming. Always have, always will. Which is exactly why Koen’s Corner live streams will return in January of 2026!

Let’s plays, ted talks, video editing, Linux experiments, and pretty much everything that you come to expect from PhoenixStarYT as a whole. With of course the added bonus of being able to directly communicate with me as we go. Always a good time, right?

That is not all for the live streams though. As I also will start working on putting mine and your favorite moments of the live streams together in Koen’s Corner Compilations. From the worst of all jokes, the biggest fails, to the loudest yells. We are all in for a good time at Koen’s Corner.

Koen’s Corner LIVE’s revival happens on January 4th at 14:00/4:00 PM CET on PhoenixStarYT. Don’t miss it!

To end this all off

At this point, I’m fairly certain you know the drill. With how lackluster 2025 has been in terms of Koen’s Corner content, it’s about time we change that. And I’m hoping this whole plan I set up will help with that.

With all that being said, I’m extremely curious; how do you feel about all this? Would you be okay with a change in format, so you could get more content from Koen’s Corner? I’m open for any and all feedback in the comments below the blog.

Until then, I still have a few blog posts to write, and videos to make. Stay tuned for that by following me on BlueSky, and have beautiful rest of your day, creators. Unite!
