Minecraft’s story is -you-
Most games we play in this day and age, have been built to tell us a story. They paint the sky. Map out the roads. And leave us breadcrumbs to follow. The story serves as your guidance. The NPC’s make up the lore. The tools to complete the game are given to you. The rules are set in stone. But on the opposite end of the spectrum, we have the sandbox.
Games that have no real rules to speak of. No story to guide you. A seemingly infinite world to explore. A completely empty inventory. And no limits to what’s possible. Minecraft is one of those games.
A quiet song plays. The sun shines bright over your world. You take a deep breath. And admire the beautiful work you put into each individual build. Although it may not seem like much to people who don’t play it, to you there is a certain meaning behind every block you place. Every build you create has a story behind it. Every monster you slay makes you feel like a hero. You get immersed in the stories you create in your world. You bring friends along to become a part of it. And while you don’t realize it… Minecraft has become an integral part of your creative journey.
How does it do it? How has Minecraft been able to maintain its sense of wonder? How are players still hooked, engaged, and even immersed in it? What makes Minecraft… special?
